Mid 80's Power Pop
« on: May 24, 2009, 09:02:53 PM »
I taped this band off some TV show about 25 years ago, give or take, and I still don't know who it is.

Download it here -  http://sharebee.com/ca5c3c2b

Any help would be greatly appreciated, every time I see it it drives me crazy wondering who it is.

Good luck to all...

For the first minute I thought it might be The Riptides, but it is doesn't look like Mark Callaghan out front.

Other than that I got nothin'.

I've watched this 10 times and I have no idea who it is, the drummer looks a tiny bit like Bruce Anton ( early Go-Betweens), the hair is all wrong though.

Aliens springs to mind, it's sort of the same music, perhaps NZ band the Narcs?

naaah I've got nothing.

As far as I can remember it was a Brisbane band, but I could be wrong.
I think this is going to be a hard one.

They weren't bad though.

A bit like The Riptides.

c'mon... someone must know. :-\

My Windows Media Player won't even play the file. What do you guys play it in?

Ok I downloaded GOMplayer and it works.

Hmmm, he sounds very familiar. My left brain cell is going "Shane Howard - Goanna". I keep telling my left brain cell to shut up cos it is not him or them but in my mind there is some connection. Could be chronological; ie released at same time of a Goanna song, or maybe it's just his voice sounds similar. Don't know. One day I will get both brain cells operating in tandem and then look out.

I play most of my stuff (music or vids, various formats) in VLC media player.  :)

Sure does sound like Mark Callaghan...

At a rough guess, the song is called "Communication".

A search on that title reveals nothing. A search on some of the lyrics also turns up zilch...

Yeah, it does - I'd have been tempted to say it was just some bunch of guys miming to a Callaghan-vocalled track, but if you watch the vid, the musos are actually playing exactly what they're supposed to be playing...

Yep, agree sounds a lot like Mark Callaghan.  Any other tiny tit-bits, or vague recollections?  Was it on a particular show?

I can't remember which show this came off.
Although I think it was a local Brisbane show.
I'm not even sure why I taped it, but I did and I liked the song way back then.
So all these years later when I see it I wonder who the hell it is.
I will agree it is a bit like The Riptides' sound.

Well it's amazing what you find when you're not actually looking for it  :D

Just stumbled across this Bazzil ....

Lovers In Bunkers - "Communication"
Brisbane TV appearance 1985

Lovers In Bunkers.wmv

Sounds like this was a performance as part of a Queensland Rock award show - that's probably why you taped it. From the intro it would seem this band was a finalist. Did they win? Probably not, as there seems scant info on the band subsequently.

Don't know what became of the band, or the band-members, afterwards.

I'm curious as to who the band-members are. Like some others, I was originally thinking the likes of Mark Callahan when I first listened to this.

I don't know what to make of the Lovers In Bunkers MySpace page ....

http://www.myspace.com/559654608

... which seems to originate from Brisbane. An original band member perhaps? Not much info there though.

Anybody heard of the band??

Cheers

Great job motcher76!!

Queensland Rock awards ring a bell.
I most likely taped it to see who was in the finals and kept this because I liked it.

MYSTERY SOLVED!!!

Now has anyony got a recording of "Dance to The Rhytm of Christ"?
